All sessions are ground-based and supervised by a certified PATH Int'l Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning/HPR® Instructor.
We have no paid staff and rely on donations, company sponsorships, grants & fundraising to provide these services. Periodic workshops and special events may incur a small fee.

Horse Powered Reading®, created by Michele Pickel, Ph.D., is a unique program where students are engaged in nature and around horses while developing their literacy and life skills. Faith-based sessions offered, as well as customized individual and small group.

Improved reading skills: Reading to animals can help children improve their reading rate, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.
Increased confidence: Reading to animals in a non-judgmental environment can help children feel more comfortable reading aloud.
Reduced anxiety: Reading to animals can help lower anxiety and remove mental blocks that can inhibit learning.
Improved motivation: Children who read to animals may be motivated to visit the animal again.
